INEDITI LETTERARI

The two unpublished literary works by Pietro Ghizzardi, published in 1986 in a volume paired with the catalogue to the exhibition Pietro Ghizzardi. Inediti artistici 1954 – 1985 were composed presumably many years apart from each other and certainly long before their publishing.

In these occasions Ghizzardi takes on poetry: the two texts are indeed verses – irregular, with no doubt – and resorts to perfect rhymes. The first of them is a new interpretation of the Shakespearian tragedy, which he came to know through popular tales, where the author claims the right of the two poor souls in love to love each other, despite the acrimony which opposes the two families.

The second text, shorter and soaked into human sympathy, reinterprets a crime news story that greatly influenced Pietro Ghizzardi – and the majority of the public opinion – that is the kidnapping and murder, in 1969, of little Ermanno Lavorini. In this ode Ghizzardi addresses the kidnappers begging for their mercy and inviting them in the strongest terms to give the child back to his family, while he imagines the child’s peaceful childhood before his kidnap and the parents’ anguish knowing him lost and exposed to the dangers of the world.
