Mural paintings

Pietro Ghizzardi produced important series of mural paintings. The practice of mural painting has studded the artist’s production since the dawn of his career, so much that he dedicates a small passage of his autobiography Mi richordo anchora to this passion for mural drawing:

and then I had exercised painting on cardboard and then I had the passion of painting on the walls of the houses above the reclaimed bridges.

Mural works, which are lost today, prove his tendency to express himself on big surfaces even before the 60s; they are reproduced in Michele Gandin’s documentary Ghizzardi farming painter (1965).

In 1969 Pietro Ghizzardi frescoed the house of Fauzia Falugi, Villa Soliani-Pini – best known as Casa Falugi –  in Boretto, producing an astonishing series of tempera frescoes, placed on two levels, to which magazines like Vogue and FMR dedicated ample reportages in the following years.

Mural paintings resume a central role also in the production of the 80s: Ghizzardi frescoed, along with other naif painters, an external wall of the cinema in Viadana (Mantua), then the Morellis’ house in Parma and an imposing Moses in his own house in Boretto, the current House Museum al Belvedere “Pietro Ghizzardi”.
