THE 70s

Pietro Ghizzardi is an established representative of the irregular art and his exhibitions follow one another around Italy, from the small to the bigger towns, in private galleries and public museums, and also abroad, especially in France, Germany and England.

In 1973 Ghizzardi is awarded the gold medal at the Fratelli Branca Award in Corcordia di Modena.

During these years he opens himself up to experimentation with tempera and oil colours that he can finally afford and that he uses together with those he continues to produce by himself. He starts working on larger sizes where he paints especially landscapes and hunting scenes.

Portrait keeps being the most performed genre, often carried out on somebody’s commission or after spontaneous requests by “models”, lady friends, acquaintances, relatives or simply curious or passionate women that come to his house – called “the little gallery” by the painter and photographed, among others, by Gianni Berengo Gardin precisely during those years, while he was in the Bassa to produce, with Zavattini, Un paese vent’anni dopo (1976) – to be portrayed.
