Procedure

The artwork (or artworks)  must be sent to the seat of the House Museum Al Belvedere “Pietro Ghizzardi” in Boretto (RE), Italy, where it will be examined and returned to the owner within 15 to 20 days. After its validity has been verified, it will be properly certified.

The artwork must be removed from its frame and it must be provided with:

  • 2 professional printed photographs (18x24cm, black and white) of the artwork’s front and backside (4 prints if it is an artwork which was painted on both sides, which means 2 prints for each side of the art work)
  • 1 professional printed photograph (18x24cm, colour) of the artwork’s front
  • 1 professional printed photograph (18x24cm, colour) of the artwork’s backside only if the author’s signature/writings/statements are present
  • 1 professional printed photograph (18x24cm, colour) of the signature if present
  • 2 digital files (18x24cm, JPG – TIFF – EPS, colour, definition 300 dpi) of the artwork’s front and backside, on CD or DVD

It is necessary that the whole photographic material is provided by a professional supplier.
If this is not the case, the staff of the House Museum and the Cultural Association “Pietro Ghizzardi” will arrange for the fulfilment of the photographic part, at the expense of the applicant.

The artwork which will be believed to possess the necessary requirements of authenticity and consequent attribution to Pietro Ghizzardi will be included in the Historical Archive “Pietro Ghizzardi”. When the owner comes to collect his artwork, documents concerning its cataloguing will be released and handed in with it. The certified artwork will be included in the Historical Archive “Pietro Ghizzardi” with its cataloguing signature and its accompanying documentation.

The House Museum Al Belvedere “Pietro Ghizzardi” and the Cultural Association “Pietro Ghizzardi” – Documentary Centre and Historical Archive will submit the assessment and the documentation of the artwork to the owner at the time of its collection.

It is preferable to send pictures of the artwork to the email address archivio@pietroghizzardi.com beforehand, so that a first evaluation can be carried out to decide if the authentication procedure should start or not. The pictures need to have a good definition (possibly file JPG, 300 dpi) – poor quality pictures do not allow any statement about the quality of the art work.

No evaluation or advice will be issued on the basis of artworks pictures sent via email or other other digital channels which do not contemplate the live analysis of the pieces.
