Sculpture

Pietro Ghizzardi practiced also sculpture, although on a minor scale compared to his painting and graphics. His sculptures were mainly made of terracotta and bronze, particularly in the 70s when his financial means raised and he wanted to test himself on a new technique.

The sizes are generally small and the subjects are small animals or anatomical fragments of those – an example is the lion’s head – but also busts of saints and popes as well as his self-portrait in bronze. Noteworthy is also his collection of terracotta ocarinas, with which he had fun composing short ballads, even if he didn’t have any musical experience.
