In the autumn of 1992, 30 years ago, Nives Pecchini Ghizzardi, Pietro Ghizzardi’s great grand niece, decided to open to the public the house where the painter and writer had lived his last years.

Since then, House Museum Pietro Ghizzardi is the seat of the largest collection of the artist’s artworks and of his historical archive and it is the referring point for researchers, museum institutions, collectors and enthusiasts in Italy and worldwide. The House Museum Pietro Ghizzardi has also been recognized among the homes of Distinguished People of Emilia-Romagna region by the regional Cultural Heritage Sector. 

To celebrate this anniversary – that overlaps with the 45th recurrence ot the Viareggio Prize as Best Debut Novel to Ghizzard’s autobiography Mi richordo anchora, published in 1976 by Einaudi and reprinted in 2016 by Quodlibet – in november and december the House Museum resumes the “live mode” events after the long stop caused by the pandemic with a few moments of reflection on our artist with scholars, curators and researchers who have been investigating Ghizzardi’s work: Sara Sermini, Sara Sorrentino and the two curators of the volume Houses and Studios of Distinguished People of Emilia-Romagna.

Furthermore, on 18th November the exhibition L’Arte Inquieta. The urgence of creation curated by Giorgio Bedoni, Johann Feilacher and Claudio Spadoni opens at Palazzo Magnani in Reggio Emilia: the exhibition lays out the issue of the identity, a restless identity which questions our time through paintings, sculptures, drawings, graphics and artist’s books of 57 artists, from Paul Klee to Anselm Kiefer, passing by Pietro Ghizzardi, who takes part in the show with two works – Donna (1960) and La bionda (1962) – from the collection of House Museum Pietro Ghizzardi. The exhibition will be on show until 12th March 2023.
